Charging Technology, Charging Yourself!

 In Technology

In this time of technology, I find myself constantly making sure my gadgets and electronic gear is always charged.   There are so many items I have to charge i.e. phone, computer, earpiece, video camera, digital camera etc.  This links to human behavior and how so many people find themselves running on empty, not charged and depleted of energy.  When we take care of ourselves we find we are able to keep ourselves “charged up” socially, emotionally, physically, financially, academically and at work.

Recharging for you

To keep your batteries topped up and ensure you have the energy you need to get what you want out of life it is worth considering a few ways to make time for recharging yourself.  The obvious answer is to get more sleep, the restorative powers of sleep and the positive effect it has on our health make it worth missing that late night TV show or putting your book down thirty minutes earlier than normal.  Make time for exercise too as it will boost your energy levels in the long run.   However, if you are really running on empty choose a relaxing activity such as yoga or Tai Chi.  Make time in the week to pamper yourself, for some people that could be a long soak in the bath, for others time for a manicure or hair cut, or even go for a sauna or facial.  If you spend a lot of time at your desk or in a stressful, pressured environment then make time in your working day to get out and have a walk, get some fresh air, have a change of scenery and take time to reflect on the day so far.

Reflection and mindfulness

One of the best ways to recharge as you go is to enjoy and live in the moment.  Reflect on your life as it is at this moment in time and look for the positive elements of your day.  Take a moment to practice a relaxation exercise such as deep breathing or meditation to focus on your body and what it might be telling you.  Can you feel stress or tension in your body?  Have you taken on negativity or frustration from someone else?  Is there a nagging issue in your head which you have been ignoring but will not go away?  By taking some time to clear your mind and get the day’s events into better perspective it is easier to see a way forward and to summon the energy to deal with things.

Over-stimulation

We live in a world where it can be hard to step away from our gadgets and technology.  Sometimes it is necessary to take a break from all the stimulation, clear our heads and take a view of the ‘bigger picture’.  When it is time to relax at the end of the day put all your technology on to charge for the night and do the same yourself.  Step away from the smartphone or laptop and create time to ground yourself before bed.  A simple, relaxing bedtime can send you off to sleep in a far better frame of mind instead of spending the night processing the latest information from the internet.

Have fun

One of the best ways to recharge is to spend time with people we love doing activities which make us happy.  Making time in our busy schedules to go to a dance or art class, playing a team sport or going to the cinema with friends can recharge our emotional selves.  A great way to improve our emotional energies is by spending time away from negative people and situations and instead placing ourselves in an environment where we feel free to express ourselves openly and delight in the enjoyment of fun activities in good company.
